Happy Canada Day! (or Fête du Canada)

Canadian Flag

Today is Canada Day, or Holiday of Canada (if you prefer the French translation.) People also refer to this day as Canada’s birthday.

Once upon a time, ~140 yrs ago… the British colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Province of Canada (Ontario & Quebec) teamed up to make 4 provinces. Canada was kind of like its own kingdom on that day, however, it took until 1982 for the actual Constitution Act.

Since British Parliament kept certain amounts of control during the 115 years in between those dates, there isn’t a clear-cut date of Independence, as with some other countries.

While we’re on the subject, here are some more Independence Days to celebrate this month: Algeria (July 5), Argentina (July 9), Bahamas (July 10), Belarus (July 3), Belgium (July 21), Burundi (July 1), Cape Verde Islands (July 5), Columbia (July 20), Liberia (July 26), Peru (July 28), Rwanda (July 1), São Tomé and Príncipe (July 12), Slovakia (July 17), Unites States (July 4) and Venezuela (July 5).

Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow

I feel like I am sitting in a snowglobe (which is probably good, b/c I’m actually sitting in an office, looking out the window- er, I mean looking at the computer monitor, working hard.)

The weather today reminded me of a holiday card I sent out few years ago. In its full glory, you’ll have to view the animation with the sound turned up!
